CHARACTERISTICS OF WAKAME SEAWEED

TASTE

Wakame seaweed has a mild sea flavor, reminiscent of oysters.

COLOR

Yellowish-brown, golden, turns green when cooked.

TEXTURE

Crunchy and meaty.

FORM

Sheet in the shape of an elongated and wavy leaf.

PROPERTIES

High soluble fiber content, and source of protein. Low fat content and has no sugars. It is rich in iron and iodine and is a source of magnesium.

HABITAT IN GALICIA

For some years now, it has been found in the ecosystems of the Galician estuaries together with other native species. It often grows attached to rocks and is visible at low tide on open coasts. It proliferates more in cold waters at a depth of between one and three meters.

IN THE KITCHEN

It can be cooked raw or blanched and is perfect in salads. It goes well with a marinade with lemon.

Boiled, it is a great garnish for meats, fish and seafood. Also to prepare soups, scrambled eggs, stews, croquettes, rice, pasta and hamburgers.

Dried and crushed for seasoning cookies, pizzas and pies.
