Small bush formed by cylindrical twigs of less than half a centimeter thick that are divided dichotomously.

PROPERTIES

The species of this genus are consumed as food in many countries of the world. It is especially appreciated in Southwest Asia, where it is consumed raw and cooked. Like most seaweeds, it contains no sugars, is a source of protein, and is rich in fiber and minerals such as iodine and magnesium.

HABITAT IN GALICIA

One of the most characteristic species in Galicia is Codium tomentosum, a species that grows on rocks of the lower coast and in basins in environments moderately battered by waves.
