BIO_MARTERRA: healthy and competitive blue bioeconomy

The sea, the land, climate change, population growth, and sustainable production are ideas that have been constantly on our minds since the Porto-Muiños project was first born.

This explains the creation of the BIO_MARTERRA operational group, which researches and tests the beneficial effects of our seaweed discards by using them to create biostimulants from seaweed extracts.

The process, which begins in our research departments, comes to life through trials at different stages: germination, potting, and vegetable garden cultivation. These trials study their effect against abiotic stresses caused by high temperatures, drought, and salinity. We are also studying and analyzing fungicidal activity in vineyards. Regarding traditional agriculture, trials are being carried out on pepper, tomato, potato, and lettuce crops. In short, a blue bioeconomy that utilizes seaweed discards and reduces the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. A healthier and more competitive agriculture.
